Think about kids learning about electricity and electric circuits for the first time in school. They Memorize the definitions of voltage and current, even theoretically understand them, and then draw a diagram of circuits in the journal. Finally now they know what a circuit looks like on paper.
Remembering all of this will surely get them good marks in exams, but what if they are asked to build the same circuit from scratch? In this they will practically have to figure out why the bulb is not lighting up because if there is even a slight misalignment in the wires, the circuit will not work, and suddenly the challenge becomes very different.
That is exactly the difference between knowing something and understanding it. Kids are always curious about how everything around them works, and textbooks they read have their limitations. This is where experiential learning bridges the gap.
What Is a STEM Lab?
A STEM Lab does not replace traditional classroom education. It works alongside it.
STEM Lab for Schools is a space where kids can explore complex scientific concepts through hands-on learning and experience it themselves. Here students use STEM toys and Robotics Kits, which include projects that they have to build themselves from scratch instead of learning just from textbooks.
A student may learn about force, motion, electricity, or simple machines in class and then use a project in the lab to see those concepts working in front of them. This combination of traditional and experiential learning makes understanding complex concepts more interesting and interactive for students while developing skills like problem-solving and critical thinking.

The integration of STEM education in schools is not happening without direction. The CBSC board has been expanding learning of practical and future-ready skills in its curriculum. In the recent academic session of the year 2026-27, CBSC has integrated a computational thinking and artificial intelligence framework for Classes III to VIII. The boards have also issued guidelines informing affiliated schools to set up Composite Skill Labs. A composite skill lab covers a wider range of learning, which includes STEM subjects with an addition of vocational and life skills under national education guidelines.
