What is the DC and RC Blix Rover, and What Inspired Us to Build It?
Share

At Blix, we’ve always believed that learning works best when it moves beyond the classroom.
This is what STEM education is all about: understanding concepts while experiencing them. Instead of just memorizing for the sake of exams, kids build, experiment, and see the concept they read about in action.
But last year, we didn't launch too many new products, as our main focus was to fix our current lineup and improve our overall design and production process by upgrading the software we use for design and setting up a proper manufacturing facility.
With this sorted, we wanted to create something new.
What is the Blix Rover?
Blix Rover is a DIY STEM kit that allows kids to build 4-5 powerful moving models that can move and handle different terrains, using tracks, sprockets, and modular Blix parts.
Unlike regular toys that use basic wheels to move around, Rover introduces kids to a dedicated track system, giving it a strong, rugged, and machine-like appeal, similar to systems that you see in tanks and construction vehicles.
This, like all our STEM toys, is not just about the looks.
Rover helps children learn, track drive mechanisms, sprocket movement, and power transmission. It’s a completely different way to understand how scientific concepts that we see around us every day work.
What led us to build it?
Our aim was to add something new to the Blix ecosystem, something that would compatilabe to numerous products in our existing Blix kits and upcoming lineup. To achieve this, we conducted extensive R&D on different sprocket designs and track mechanisms. We experimented with multiple sprocket profiles, track sizes, grip patterns, and movement efficiency.
After months of development and testing, one thing was clear: a dedicated track system could add a completely new value to our STEM toys and Robotics Kits , that is because:
- It introduces a different motion concept compared to wheels
- Kids are naturally attracted to tracked vehicles like tanks and construction machines
- It expands the overall learning experience
After numerous iterations, we finalised on a track design that ensured smooth motion, durability, and a strong grip, making it both educational and exciting.
Why did we make both DC and RC Rover?
We created two versions of the rover, one with a simple motorized DC kit and the second with an advanced RC model to offer different levels of experience and learning.
Motorized Model:This focuses on simple motor-based movement. This educational toy is perfect for beginners who are just starting to understand how mechanical systems work. The emphasis here is on building and learning the fundamentals.
RC Model:This takes things a step further by introducing remote-controlled movement. Kids can control direction, navigate their builds, and interact with their models in a more dynamic way, making it ideal for more advanced users.
By offering both versions, we make sure that beginners can start simple, advanced users can explore more control, so learning can grow every step of the way.
Which Version Should You Pick?
The choice totally depends on where your kids are in their learning phase.
If they are just starting out and have never engaged with BLIX Kits or other STEM toys, then the Motorized DC version is a great way to understand how basic mechanisms work. And once they get a grip on it, you can introduce the RC model for an advanced experience.
Either way, BLIX Rover is designed to do one thing: to explore how tracked vehicles are built, powered, and controlled, all through hands-on learning.
