How Is the 2025 Budget Shaping the Future of STEM Education in India?

The number of students studying in IITs has increased by 100% in just a span of 10 years. This is not us saying it. It is a statement by the finance minister in the 2025 budget.
But why are we talking about this?
The 2025 budget by the Indian government was all in favor of the education industry. We saw several initiatives bolstering STEM. All aligned really well with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
And we, at Blix, being at the forefront of STEM truly believe, it's a step ahead to bring the best out of the future leaders. Help them innovate, think critically, and make everyone technologically proficient. Out of all the best initiatives taken so far, these are the ones we feel, will make STEM a core part of the education industry ahead:
1. Expansion of Atal Tinkering Labs
A significant highlight of the budget day was the plan to establish 50,000 additional Atal Tinkering Labs in government schools over the next five years. This initiative shows how important STEM subjects are for the years ahead. ATAL tinkering labs are for government schools offering tools and technologies that's all things STEM.
Similarly, Blix also offers a complete lab setup and even offers STEM tinkering kits. Not just the complete setup, we also offer material replacements, regular lab audits, student assessments, and complete support to prepare for any STEM and Robotics competitions.
2. Establishment of Centres of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence
The budget allocates ₹500 crore for the creation of three Centres of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (AI). This shows how AI is going to be extremely important in the curriculum. In fact, these centers will focus more on how AI can fit well into the curriculum. Even the educators will be trained. At Blix, we are primarily dedicated to delivering authentic AI learning experiences through our labs.
3. Expansion of IIT and Medical Seats
Last but not least, to further strengthen STEM education, the budget proposes an increase of 6,500 seats in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the addition of 10,000 new medical college seats in 2025, with a target of 75,000 new seats over five years. This one single move will provide more opportunities for students who want to step into STEM fields.
Beyond all the budgetary allocations that happened, the Indian government has even implemented several more initiatives to strengthen STEM education:
Like,
The e-Yantra Project
This project is actually initiated by IIT Bombay. But it also is supported by the Ministry of Education. The e-Yantra project focuses on embedding robotics into engineering education. It actually is a great initiative that shows the importance of robotics in the curriculum. This again makes it important for even kids to know the know-how of robotics in the early years of education.
All of these initiatives above show how the government is committed to advancing STEM education. In fact, all in line with the objectives of NEP 2020. We are still on the first step of a long ladder. The baby steps above will definitely prepare students for future challenges and opportunities, in the best way. And with the same vision, Blix is also here to make STEM education accessible to everyone, so let's join forces together.
