Effectiveness of Play-Way Method of Learning in Early Years

The Importance of Educational Toys in Early Years of Childhood

“Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn” – O. Fred Donaldson

According to UNICEF, scientific researches over the past 30 years has shown that most of the brain’s development happens before the child turns 8. This is the time when children develop essential skills like critical thinking and problem-solving. The play-way method of learning can be the best method to help them develop these skills.

The play-way method can be one of the first and foremost methods of learning for children. In the early years, play-way method helps children to explore and try to figure out the sense of the world around them. Although play-way method of learning is important, it is often neglected to focus solely on academic learning. In this day and age, children can develop motivation, strengthen their grades and enjoy the process of learning.

Play-way Method is Joyful

If we observe kids or even adults when they are playing, they are often smiling or laughing. Well, not always, playing can have its fair share of frustration, anger and disappointment but is often because of a sense of not being good enough. This feeling can push them to become a better version of themselves.

Play-Way Method is Socially Interactive

Play-way method allows children to communicate, share ideas and listen to others. Children develop empathy and build better and stronger relationships through play-way activities. They develop skills required for teamwork, learn how to stand out in a crowd and cooperate with others when there is a common goal.

Play-Way Method is Meaningful

Play-way method gives children a chance to practise what they are learning. Play-way method provides meaning to the children’s surroundings as they are unfolding all the mysteries around them. As quoted by Plato “Do not keep children to their studies by compassion but by play”, play can create the zeal required to gain knowledge in kids.

Play-Way Method is Actively Engaging

Play-way activities can be extremely engaging for children. They use multiple senses simultaneously to accomplish a task, work in coordination with their peers, actively engage in verbal communication and are always on the lookout for creative ways to solve problems. They become immersed in the activity they are participating in.

Play-Way Method is Repetitive

Being repetitive means the child gets to practise. On the contrary to popular belief, only practice does not make anyone perfect but practice makes it permanent. Because play-way learning is competitive, it will make children find ways to improve themselves. As they repeat the activities, they develop creative thinking skills which can be helpful in the long run.

Conclusion

We should see play as a necessity and not a luxury. The role of family and community must be recognised in the process of play-way method of learning.
